Dreaming of Africa: Vwaza, acrylic on canvas, 2004

Jon traveled to Malawi in July, 2004 to meet people at the University and begin setting up the framework for his Fulbright proposal. He brought back overexposed photos from his disposable camera that gave me a slight glimpse of this country. In the fall of 2004, with my hopes high to visit Africa one day, I painted this image from one of Jon's photos of hippos at the water's edge in Vwaza Marsh National Park.
