Mushrooms grow wild in Malawi's Viphya Forest near Mzuzu. People stand on the side of the road with their baskets full of mushrooms that look like loaves of bread and bright orange berries. But they are all delicious, exotic mushrooms. We veered onto the bumpy shoulder of the M1 to pick some up and experiment cooking with Cheri during her visit. That night we made grilled mushroom appetizers and pasta with triple mushroom sauce. It was fabulous, except that afterwards we were all feeling a bit nauseous and decided it probably wasn't wise to consume so much foreign fungi in one sitting.
